Story - 'A Stroke of Luck'
This is my personal story which I hope will be of interest to the many who have experienced a stroke, and those who by being more aware may avoid this potentially life threatening and debilitating occurrence. Whilst the actual event was traumatic itself, the aftermath has given me time to reflect on just how lucky I have been, and why I believe my experience of already having much knowledge of natural food supplements has further brought into question the way we accept our fate thereafter. As a writer of inspirations my first thought as soon as I could sit up in bed the morning after the stoke was to request a piece of paper from the nurse, it had been a long night, a vigil with my eyes being checked for signs of possible haemorrhaging as I had been given a powerful clot busting drug, as well as blood pressure monitoring every half hour.
In a few more hours I would know if I was out of that danger, but meanwhile the words of the nurse who administered the drug whilst my family stood round me in the trauma room rang in my ears ‘ We’ll do what we can to save as much as we can’. I will always remember those words and be thankful that expecting the worst I came through with the best result possible, and I owe that to the decision taken to give me the thrombolysis drug that cannot be used on many occasions such as when the patient arrives more than four and a half hours after experiencing the first symptoms. This is what I scribbled down in a rather poor hand affected by the stroke, but still able to record the experience.
‘A Stroke of Luck’
When you have stared at the gates of hell
And listened to the sound of silence,
When you have given your life to someone else
To make you live or die
When you have seen your loved ones
With only tears in their eyes,
Listening and watching, scared and bewildered
All focused on your strength and determination
When through the haze you have seen those special people
The ones who have always been there,
Those able to forgive and forget so much because you are you
Those who are the reason you fight
When you have seen all this and survived
There is something you carry beyond love,
The inner spirit that rises and says
‘I am still here – I will not leave you again! ’

For years I have been closely associated with natural supplements, and taken them now for forty years hardly ever needing to see a doctor, always looking for a natural remedy if ever I needed something. However at the same time I allowed myself to think that I could eat what I liked, be under constant stress, put on weight and then dehydrate severely and get away with it…
Unfortunately I couldn’t, and on August 22nd I suffered an Ischemic stroke (Blood Clot on the brain) over the weekend, which was probably the hottest we had, I had been playing tennis, gardening, out to dinner on my birthday 19th, and a barbeque 20th (more rich food and wine), then played tennis Monday night 21st with pub afterwards (more dehydration!) and bang - nearly died on Tuesday!
When I tracked back I realised I had not been taking two things that probably would have prevented what was so nearly my demise or debilitation. I had varied my supplements, and those I had been taking up to 6 months before I am sure would have kept the blood flowing and the blood pressure down. The point of saying this is that I have now proved this to myself after the event. I was given a new clot busting drug whilst having the stroke which is very powerful but has its risks, in that acute situation the quick action of a powerful drug is the difference between life and death, a potentially normal future, or one I would not like to imagine. Interestingly I knew the effect of cayenne pepper and just managed to get some down before I went to hospital and am now convinced this had a lot to do with the speed at which the clot dispersed later!
Back to basics, on leaving hospital two days later I was loaded up with the usual pack of statins and blood thinning drugs, but with the knowledge I already had plus a lot of new research conducted during the first ten days, whilst opting to take the high dose aspirin in the immediate aftermath I left the statins. I had been feeling desperately tired which is a normal symptom after stroke, and also felt a tension which was no doubt worrying about any recurrence alongside the fact that I was not yet on any of my own natural supplements. By day ten I had received a new supply of our Parent Essential Oils and L-Aginine ( Food State Technology product) and immediately started to feel better, it was as if a weight had been lifted, there was less tiredness and the fact that I had replaced drugs with side effects with natural nutrients was also a major factor, I now knew I was not just dealing with symptoms now but actually starting the healing and repair process.
These two products as the base along with a better eating programme gave me natural blood thinning, natural lowering of triglycerides (which I had seen from my blood tests had been very high at 3.8 and are now normal at 1.78), natural lowering of blood pressure ( to a normal level), and with a steady build up of exercise and reduction of weight of now 18lbs pounds, I have been back playing tennis, have regained my strength, and have hardly any effects left! The speed of my recovery is I am sure down to providing my body with a host of balanced super-foods which are all known for their health properties.
I am only using my example to illustrate how it is so easy to just accept drugs as the answer to every health problem, every drug has a side effect, multiple drugs therefore will have multiple side effects, all of which rob the body of its vitality. If we use a sticky plaster to keep a condition at bay then we must always use it, but if we look for the cause and then look to correct it, we then can avoid the side effects and actually restore our strength and health.
I am a great believer in using modern medicine to alleviate acute conditions, and I am full of praise for the care one gets when it is needed, but personally (and I stress all my remarks are from a personal point of view) I do not wish to put chemicals of any nature in my body when natural known foods can achieve the same if not better results. We read constantly about drugs being withdrawn because of concerns, by which time many people have been subjected to the effects. In contrast, naturally balanced super-foods not only give a balance from nature, but can have remarkable benefits which have been known for centuries.
It is up to every individual to decide what balance they desire in their lives, my decision until recently was to eat mostly what I wanted, drink according to the situation, live with and strive on stress, and generally enjoy what life had to offer until I succumbed…. Believe me it is not worth it! When you have had a good run as I have, it pays to start looking after yourself before it is too late as it nearly was for me. Now I have nearly forgotten the stroke, am building daily and looking forward to feeling better than ever, that confidence in itself lowers stress, which lowers blood pressure, which helps to stop the blood thickening. When you know you are giving yourself the best nature has to offer, the future looks and feels a lot brighter!
Best of Health,
Bill
